Well friends today was another court day in our case. Baby K's plan was changed from Reunification to adoption (to us). DCFS was also ordered to cease reunification efforts with both of her parents (only one parent was present today). While this means very little in the day to day living its a needed step in the direction of permanency for baby K (adoption is permanent whereas foster care is temporary).
We go back to court in late October. Between now and then we wait....imagine that....more waiting. So nothing set in stone, nothing official, nothing BIG in layman terms of everyday ins and outs, but a "win' none the less, if there is a "win" in foster care cases.
What happens from here....only God knows. There are several scenarios really---A couple being the parents could make a 360 degree turn and decide to turn their lives around and choose to get the required help and resources they need on their own without DCFS being there to hold their hand now and convince the judge in October to revisit the reunification option, OR the parents could choose to continue down the path they really haven't deviated much from over the past ten months since K came into care. Then in October the judge will see what has or hasn't been done and determine if she recommends pursuing terminating parental rights (a couple more court dates required to do so) at that time or not. Only time will tell and in the meantime we get to love on K and pour ourselves into her little CRAWLING self--- that's right shes crawling--the week she was scheduled for developmental screening for gross motor delays she decided to start crawling ;).
So that's how it went in a nut shell everyone. Sorry to be so vague, we just cant share too much. Please continue to pray for baby K, her parents, us, her case workers, her judge, etc.
Thanks for thinking of us and praying today. It was a long several hours in that court room waiting for our case to be heard, but knowing we had an army of prayer warriors behind us made it easier!
